Family–Judit’s photos are ready to go!

You will remember this family from an earlier blog posting. Judit is our beloved dance instructor at Champions Dance Studio.

Patrick and Christopher were such fun to shoot! I try to learn what excites the kids and people that I photograph, and by focusing on that, they become less aware that we are taking photos, and more focused on having fun or telling me about something super cool! Christopher’s favorite topic is dinosaurs (his super favorite is the T. Rex), so asking any question about them gets him animated. In the black and white photo below, I think I asked him how big the T. Rex was, and this was the result!

Patrick is a little younger and expresses himself through what he builds with his Legos and his choice of Hot Wheels cars.

You can see all the photos from this session here.

A sneak peak for Elora’s family

There are many times that I feel so honored to be able to witness some of these moments unfold in front of my camera. This photo session was certainly one of them.

It was a rare instance, in a family spread out over thousands of miles, when four generations were able to enjoy a walk in the local park. But, here it was, on a beautiful day, when the setting sun washes everything in yellow, they were there spending the evening together. A simple stroll along beside a pond, full of laughter and love, creates some wonderful photo opportunities.

I wanted to post a few images from this session before Grandma has to get on a plane and leave Boston tomorrow. More will be posted in the next couple weeks.

Drexel is here!!

I had the good fortune to photograph Kim and JT in early June when Kim was still pregnant. A few weeks later, I got an excited email from Kim announcing the arrival of baby Drexel!!

Of course, I wanted to go meet him as soon as I could! Kim was eager to have me meet and photograph him right away, so I did! He is a beautiful child, and he seemed amazingly alert for that age. He kept looking at me, trying to figure out what I was doing exactly. I know children this old are not yet able to focus so well, but it really seemed like he could.

Kim will be my first client that I will be able to follow from expecting mother to seeing Drexel on his first birthday, and I am SO EXCITED for the opportunity!

Here are a few from our latest session

Family-Judit–Sneak Peek!!

I really like the idea of doing a sneak peek of a few images from a recent session. So, here is my latest installment.

I went to Judit’s house (Judit is our talented dance instructor-www.championsdancestudio.com) to photograph her, her husband, and her two boys, Christopher and Patrick. I am not sure what Patrick thought of me/being photographed, but with Christopher, all I had to do was ask him about what he likes to build with Legos or about his favorite dinosaur (T. Rex, fyi), and he would get all animated!!

There was a lot of play time, and these are my favorite times to shoot! Kids and parents really get to be with each other, and I get to fade into the background, just witnessing the joyous moments unfolding in front of me!!

Here are a few of the ones that caught my eye when I first looked through all of the photos. More will be coming soon!!

Second family session with Amanda, Annabelle, and Claire

This was my second session with Amanda, Annabelle, and Claire, and though Riley the golden retriever (“our first child,” as Amanda refers to him) showed up in one of the photos from last session, he had more of a presence in this one. Luckily, Patrick, the husband/father, was able to be in a few too!

Annabelle is a little shy. She warmed up to me a little (you may remember in the last session, she eventually introduced me to her lovey Raoul) the last time, but this time was much different! As soon as I arrived and sat down on the floor in their play area, she went over to her bookcase, chose one, and sat down right next to me to read with me!!! Revisiting families for multiple sessions sure has its value!!

I certainly look to photograph the abundant energy of children, but capturing those quiet moments shared between parent and child is equally as fulfilling. After copious amounts of running around, Amanda suggested we go outside. Immediately, Claire ran over, sat in mom’s lap, and quietly waited until her shoes were on. This, in my eyes, is one of the many places where the love resides.

Check out all of the photos from this session here!
