Andres and Zareena–Sneak Peek!

I can’t help myself!! Andres and Zareena’s wedding was so fun and so beautiful that I just have to share a few of the shots I have edited!
You may remember these two from our engagement photo session on Newbury St. in Boston. They are a fun couple to photograph because they don’t take themselves too seriously and like to be a little silly (witness the shot of the guys where I could swear they are showing me their “Blue Steel” look!!–a reference to the movie Zoolander).
Zareena talked to me before the reception and asked that I be sure to get a photo of the cake topper she made herself for the wedding cake. Sadly, it broke in transport. I felt so bad for her, but when she heard the news, she took a moment, made a frowny face, then laughed it off, way too excited to marry her special guy to let the little things bother her.
Stay tuned, more photos will follow soon!!

Anya’s First Birthday

For me, it’s all about building lasting relationships with people I photograph.

I photographed Josh and Tara’s kids a few months ago, Then last month, Josh’s co-worker sent around an email to her work group looking for a recommendation of a photographer to capture her daughter Anya’s first birthday. Josh sent along my website and next thing you know I’m surrounded by cake and balloons! Thanks Josh!

Anya was so fun to photograph! She was giggling, dancing and being adorable at every turn! Then, her mom sat her down in front of a birthday cake topped with yellow duckies made out of frosting. Anya sat there, sizing up the cake. A tentative hand went out to grab one of the ducks, thinking it was going to be plastic, but then it squished between her fingers! She opened her hand and looked at the yellow frosting that used to be a duck. The look of confusion on her face was priceless!! After a few moments, she put her fingers in her mouth. AH HA!!! Now she was catching on!! Soon frosting was all over and she was giggling and even shared some with her mom!!

Making a book

After a fun shoot with Amanda and her little ones Annabelle and Claire, Amanda asked about making an album/book for her husband to display on his desk at work. We chatted for a bit about what she wanted it to look like, and Amanda said she was hoping for it to feel fun and bright, to match her daughters’ personalities. So, we decided on some colorful background paper with a layer of white “eyelet” paper to really set the images off the page. Then it was finished with the fun polka dot covers and a silver wire binding that the album could stand up like a mini-calendar displaying the double-sided pages so her husband could choose his favorite photo to look at for the day, and he could show off his girls to anyone that comes into his office.

I love having the chance to work with printed photos to display; and not just have them hiding in a folder on a computer! Thanks Amanda for the great idea!

Dave and Sanne’s Wedding

Dave and Sanne’s story reads like a romance novel!
Sanne is from Denmark and came to Boston for only six months as part of her PhD program. At a dinner party thrown by mutual friends she met Dave and in no time they fell in love. It’s true what they say, “When you know, you know.” Sanne’s time in Boston was limited by her student visa, so they jetted off to elope in the most iconic way you can elope; in Las Vegas with Elvis by their sides!

Even though they eloped, they still wanted to celebrate their marriage with friends and family, so they decided to have two parties, one in Denmark, and they will have one in Boston in a few months.

What a treat it was to travel to Denmark, both to visit somewhere new, and I got to learn about some unique wedding traditions.

Like in the U.S., guests clink their glasses to get the bride and groom to kiss, but in Denmark the couple has to stand up on their chairs so everyone can a good look. Then, while they’re up there, the guests knock on the underside of the table. This is the cue for the bride and groom to get down and kiss under the table for their own “private” kiss. What fun!

Here is a small sample of some of the photos from that day. To view everything I shot for them, click here.

Maternity Shoot-Kim and JT

I ran into Kim on the street near Davis Square and couldn’t resist approaching her. I was trying to think of an opening line, but I had never done this before. I decided against starting with “Hi there. You’re pregnant…long pause…Can I photograph you?” But sadly, what I did come up with wasn’t much better. Luckily, she took my business card and checked out my website. Obviously, she liked what we saw and we booked a session for a few days later!
Her and JT are a great and well traveled couple! It was nice to get to know them, and with there little one coming along in just a couple weeks, I am excited for them, and for me, as I hope to photograph them and the little one soon!
I have photographed a few parents who have been nervous parents (as I am sure I will be someday), but I think these two will be great parents! After all, they have had plenty of practice taking care of their energetic and friendly dogs for a while now!!
